Five Reasons Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Rocks

Five Reasons Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Rocks
Mozilla released Firefox 3.5 this week, and the Web browser has numerous improvements over its previous version. For those Microsoft Explorer holdouts, it's worth taking a look at. As of this writing, Mozilla reported approximately 4 million downloads. Here's five reasons Firefox 3.5 is a hit.

1. Speed:The number one criterion for a browser is fast speed. The 3.5 version of Mozilla Firefox is markedly faster than its predecessor. According to Mozilla, it ran the industry-standard SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark, which measures how fast browsers render JavaScript, on versions 2, 3 and 3.5 of Firefox. The company claims the newest version performed with at least double the speed of Firefox 3 and is more than 10 times as fast as Firefox 2.

2. Privacy:Just as Explorer offers InPrivate Browsing, Mozilla Firefox 3.5 has Private Browsing. Once a Private Browsing session is activated, computer users can surf any site at all with no trace remaining when they are finished: no cookies, no temp files, no forms information and no search information.

Further, if a user isn't in Private Browsing mode, but still wants to eliminate traces of where he or she has been, there's the "Forget About This Site" feature. That erases the site from the History list, as well as all traces of the browsing session on your computer, including cookies and temp files, search history, forms and more.

3. Music and Video Support:Because Firefox 3.5 supports HTML 5 audio and video elements, users can watch video and listen to music directly in a Web page, without launching any plug-ins. The video or audio can be saved by right-clicking and saving it. That's a big improvement with the torrent of video viewing taking place on the internet.

4. "Awesome Bar:"The location bar -dubbed the "Awesome Bar" by some perhaps overly enthusiastic developers - has been made even more, well, awesome in Mozilla Firefox 3.5. Previosuly, you could simply type the name of what you were searching into that field, foregoing the search box altogether, and a Google search page would show results. Mozilla has tweaked the search functionality in the browser so surfers can show only bookmarks by using an asterisk after a query such as "Channelweb *", or show only tags by using a plus "Channelweb +".

5. Session Control:If Mozilla Firefox crashes, users can choose which tabs to resuscitate, a feature previously available through the Session Manager add-on. That's handy particularly if a Flash-based or heavy JavaScript site was the cause of the crash, so users aren't caught in a perpetual, and irritating, crash-and-restart cycle in their browser.

Aishwarya and Sharukh Khan patch Up at Karan Johars Bthday Party

Karan Johar's birthday party on Monday night was a night of patch-ups. Especially for the Bachchan boy. Vivek Oberoi and he hugged each other, he exchanged hellos with Karisma Kapoor and chatted at length with SRK.
But the surprise patch-up of the evening was between Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

How things went bad

Says a source present at the party, "After Shah Rukh dropped Aishwarya unceremoniously from his home production Chalte Chalte, she never forgave or forgot that. Things between them got worse when SRK and Gauri were not invited to the AbhiAsh wedding.

But the final straw was reports of Shah Rukh having said unflattering things about Ash during a verbal war with Salman, last year. While Salman maintained that SRK had made debasing comments about Ash, SRK swore that he had too much respect for women to demean them.

At the time, Shah Rukh had called the Bachchans' family friend Amar Singh and had explained to him that he hadn't said anything demeaning about the Bachchan bahu, but the damage was done. Battle lines were drawn.

Apology accepted

But on Monday night, when Karan brought them together, both sides decided to put aside their differences and make a fresh start. Says a source, "A few minutes into the conversation with Ash, SRK apologised to her." He said, 'I think I owe you an apology because in some way I have wronged you." Ash gracefully accepted the olive branch offered.

After that, Abhishek, Ash, Shah Rukh and Gauri stuck together dancing, chatting and laughing. As the party wound up, Gauri asked her usual group of friends back home to continue the party there. She also invited Ash and Abhishek to come along, and they all piled into one car and headed for Mannat.

Other couples like Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, Kajaal Anand and Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia joined them later. The group partied at SRK's home till 6 am and left after having breakfast." Happy endings are so much fun.

In town for the anniversary of a luxury product at the Emporio mall, the dude answered every single question, and not one ‘no comments’. Someone wanted his autograph, and thrust a scrap of paper into his hands. “For my daughter, please, she’s crazy about you,” said the lady. “I appreciate, but I’d still need a pen,” said Abhi, with a very straight face, while the lady blushed. Tell us about the French connection in Pa, one journo wanted to know. “French connection? The film is being directed by Balki, and I must say, so far he’s an Indian. So, no French connection, ma’am,” shot back Abhi.

But perhaps no one realised, even then, that Abhishek Bachchan was in a decidedly un-Bachchan mood. Someone asked him to ask a question to Lata Mangeshkar, for some TV programme. “Are you crazy? What would I ask her?” he asked. “Can’t ask her age, that would be improper, wouldn’t it?” he added, his eyes glinting with mischief.

Seemed like no one could quite handle the usually monosyllabic, sulking AB Jr in this mood. Poochhna tha if he’s playing AB Sr’s father in Pa and ended up asking, ‘Are you playing your father’s son in Pa?’ Abhi pounced on the mistake. “Playing my father’s son? I am my father’s son. Would you believe it?” he asked loudly to nobody in particular. “I am my father’s son.” That quite ended the Q&A session, and Abhi then mingled about.
Conversation veered towards his films, his losing and putting on weight, working with Aishwarya, and doing photoshoots with sis Shweta Nanda... “Aishwarya is my wife, and Shweta my elder sister first and foremost. Nothing is going to change that. They both pamper me silly. And as for putting on and losing weight, it’s a very tough task. It might sound fun, but it’s not. It is very demanding on the body.”

And the Cannes veteran that he is now, has he quite mastered the art of walking the Red Carpet? “We go there for work. Yes, it is seen as being very glamorous and prestigious, but at the end of the day, it is work for us. The Cannes festival is one of the biggest movie markets in the world. We go there to sell our films, it is a fantastic platform. The whole world comes there to buy and sell films,” says Abhi. And what about the tiny spark of controversy? “What controversy?” he asks, fidgeting with his ring a bit – which, by the way, is a habit of Abhi’s. He keeps playing with his ring every now and then. Oh, those reports of him ‘chatting and discussing’ with and enjoying the company of German supermodel and Playboy playmate Claudia Ciesla at the Indian Pavilion at Cannes? “If all this helps her, it’s great. Best of luck to her,” says Abhi, and adds firmly, “But I don’t know the lady. Never met her.”

Barcelona beat United to win Champions League

ROME: Barcelona stunned holders Manchester United to win their third Champions League crown with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday. ( Watch )

Goals from star forwards Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi gave the Catalans a deserved victory and denied United from becoming the first team to retain the title since the European Cup became the Champions League in 1993.

It gave the Spaniards a unique treble having already won their domestic league and cup and meant they repeated a feat United achieved in 1999, which Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson had then claimed would never be matched.

It crowned a marvellous debut season for his Barcelona counterpart Pep Guardiola, who at 38 becomes the youngest coach to take European club football's greatest prize.

Barca overcame early jitters to dominate large parts of the game as the English club never managed to get their usual high tempo game into gear.

In a clash billed as the match of the century pitting the best two teams in the world - with each one boasting one of the best two players in the world - only one played to their full potential.

And Ferguson may be questioning his team selection having left both Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez on the United bench as Ryan Giggs played off lone striker Cristiano Ronaldo with Wayne Rooney and Park Ji-Sung confined to disciplined roles on the flanks.

Both sides may a nervy start with Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes and United's Park - the first ever Asian player to play in a Champions League final - playing passes straight into touch.

But United settled quickest and Ronaldo had a purple patch in which he terrorised the Spaniards for 10 minutes.

He hit a 25-yard free-kick that Valdes couldn't hold and former United defender Gerard Pique had to dive in to deflect Park's follow-up away for a corner.

Ronaldo then lashed a fierce long range drive wide and later, after controlling the ball on his chest, he hit a left-foot volley that sailed agonisingly inches past the post.

The reigning champions were enjoying all the ball and chances but out of the blue Barca took the lead.

Andres Iniesta played in Eto'o who beat Nemanja Vidic inside the box and although Michael Carrick slid in to try to block his shot, he succeeded only in helping it past Edwin van der Sar.

That goal settled Barca into their usual stride and they started to weave the pretty patterns that have been mesmerising opponents all season, carrying them to the remarkable feat of scoring more than 150 goals.

As the half wore on United gradually lost their shape and rhythm with Sir Alex Ferguson responding late on by pushing Rooney up alongside Ronaldo and Giggs out to the left.

Ronaldo at times looked like he wanted to take on Barca on his own and on 20 minutes he tried a shot for the second time when a pass out wide looked the better option.

Xavi then tried his luck from a free-kick which, like Giggs's earlier, was too high but by now Barca had wrested control of the game and were keeping the ball with alarming ease.

Ferguson wasted no time in switching tactics, bringing on Tevez for Anderson at the break and reverting to a more regular 4-4-2, the Argentine playing alongside Ronaldo and Giggs dropping back into a deeper role.

But Barca were first to strike on the counter as Thierry Henry cut in from the flank and left Ferdinand on the seat of his pants before shooting weakly at van der Sar on 48 minutes.

The Spaniards were totally in the ascendancy and Xavi fired a free-kick off the post on 53 minutes with van der Sar beaten as Barca threatened to run riot.

The reigning champions steadied the ship and Ferguson signalled his intent when he threw Berbatov on for Park with a quarter of the match remaining.

But just as the tide seemed to be turning, Barca extended their lead from the most unlikely source as Xavi picked out Messi at the back post on the edge of the six yard box, the Argentine wizard's looping header arcing into the top corner on 70 minutes.

Push as United might in the final minutes, though, they lacked their usual sparkle and Valdes's goal was rarely threatened.
